Combines STS CAPACITY

Stick with the R-72. 9 times out of 10 it will destroy anything that's painted green in the same field. You walk about 1-2 MPH (or more) faster and save even more grain. Sample is better due to the accelerator rolls , and not to mention it's easier to tear into the gleaners when need be. Deeres are excellent combines that can beat anybody in damp or excessively green fields (at least the straw walker ones, haven't seen an STS in too much green yet),but the Gleaner all in all is a better beast. Your mileage may vary. Best thing is to try them both, and see which one works best for you, not for me or some deere or case freak on here.

In response as to whether the R-72 will outcut a 9650, you first have to compare apples to apples.R-62...9650...R-72...9750...get the picture. I'm sure a R-72 will outcut a 9650.Put a 9750 STS in the field with with a R-72 and see what ya get!!!

We have a 9650 STS with a 36D front and my father runs a R62 with 36 Mc Don . He would sooner be in mine even capacity wise. Nothing wrong with the R62 although he did have more teething problems with this one compared to his previous two just a better finish and job. One client said it did the nicest job of any machine he's had on the place ,All things taken into account. As far as the wear , I't has about 500hrs on it now . Nothing to bad but we have only harvested wheat and canola. I had run three 2188's before getting this one , Apart from the price difference there is no comparison. Thats just our experience in our conditions for what it is worth ! I think your previous advice about trying them both yourself would be best even more so if you can get them side by side in the same conditions to be fair. Ours ran side by side for probably 300 out of those 500 hours. Good luck.

Whats the limiting factor on a 9650sts in small grainIJ Horsepower, rotor loss, shoe loss or feedingIJ What year 62 did he have 260 hp or 285 hpIJ All the R-62's i have run have been horsepower limited if set right. I have not run a 285 hp R-62.

The R62 was the last of the 260's. I think the new model this year is an R62 XP(extra power) must be the 285's. He was pretty well always short on power. The 9650 STS only really had horsepower trouble when we were in soft ground and the propulsion drained all the power. In most of the wheat the yields were only 10 to 15 bags and the limiter was top speed in second gear where the R62 has the third working gear but when the ground softened both had the propulsion lag ,not a normal thing just the wet harvest. It didn't seem to have to much horse power trouble in canola windrowed into one row off the 36ft front only about half tonne per acre yield though. But all crops and conditions are different and an in field comparison apart from the cosmetics is the only way you'll convince yourself either way. For what its worth I think the expanding nature of the STS's seperation area is about the kindest on horsepower of any of the full rotary systems, Without having had the TR's and not comparing them. Good luck with it.

The R62 was a little cheaper than the 9650STS only talking in changeover figures trading the 2188 in on either. But the 2388 was cheaper by a long way. After the run I had with the last 2188 it wasn't really an option though. It might have just have been a bad one ! It's only early days for the STS but It was pretty hard to fault . A fair bit comes down to the pre delivery so your dealers efforts before delivery can be very influential in your end result and being happy with the machine. Good luck.

I toured the NH plaant last year and during a focus group, they said the expanding concave around a STS is maybe a good idea. My question is at that point the easy threshing grain has already been remove and the toughest grain is still needs to be knocked out. Getting less agresive seems to be the wrong thing. The tines to comb the grain makes sensc, but also looks like a potential brakage problem. I know the aftermarket guys thing the STS is wonderful- they believe there will be a huge market for thier products
