My only point was that say in the instance you describe the MX worked 12 acres of ground using 12 gal of fuel and the deere used 14 gals but worked 14 acres the fuel per ac. consumption was the same for both tractors I have owned several Magnum tractors since they first came out. I remeber trading a 7120 for a 7240mfd and was complaining to the dealer about how much more fuel the 7240 used pulling the same euipment. He asked how much ground I was working in a day compared to what we did with the 7120. When I realised how much more the 7240 worked than the 7120 and put that into fuel per ac instead of fuel per hour then the 7240 was way ahead of the 7120.

We had a 8410 for 3 years. It was a lease tractor. That thing would drink fuel like crazy. Pulling a 28ft disk would use a tank of fuel from 7 in the morning till about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. It even used a lot on the graincart. We have a 926 Fendt now and that thing will way outdo the 8410. And use way less fuel doing it. They are roughly the same HP tractors. We will be getting another 926 in 2005.

It means nothing on how much fuel a tracter burns per hr,its per acre that you have to figure my stx 500s burn 25gals per hr but they can do 40 acres per hr thats what I go buy.

the small power band can easily be updated to 2200 high idle instead of 2050.i would think the updates in the trans would be a positive thing, you know they are trying to make it better, JD calls them " product improvements" not updates.

How do you like the short Fendt on the grain cart compared to the DeereIJ

Yeah, I understand that. In my example they were both pulling, I think, 20-something foot field cultivators. Basically the same load. Now, maybe one was getting a lot more done, but I doubt it. It's interesting though. Our 7120 will actually use less fuel per hour than aour 1466 pulling the same machinery, so you use way less fuel per acre. The 5488 is actually a little better on fuel, per acre, than the 7120.

We love it. Everybody who has ran it on the cart says its the best cart tractor ever. Its not real short. The 3pt. on the front with that big weight stretches it out a lot. It really rides well even with a 1000 bushels on. And it has all the power to pull it and pull it fast.

We have an 8420. Have put 900 hours on it so far with not a single problem. It is a great tractor, huge improvement over the 00 series. The shifting is very smooth, plenty of power and the IlS is a great option. The price is steep for IlS but let me tell you it is well worth it.

I don't know your neighbors' situation but when we went from the 7240 to the MX 240 to the 8310, we pulled the same equipment with each tractor. At the end of a day there wasn't a lot of difference in the amount of ground that the deere and the 7240 worked. But both would work more than the MX would.
