Combines Thoughts on Agco CNH

I differ with you on Deutz not buring AllIS CHAlMERS,because all companies make bad decisions .Some that put them out of bussiness ,yes but deutz thought that the american farmer would buy the air cooled engine and yes they did sell them but, have heard complaints around here of them overheating because you have to keep all the air filters cleaned out so much which you have to do with all engines.Deutz on my own oppion for what it is worth would have sold more tractors if they would have left the 8000 series in production and left everything orange. The problem now days is companies buy one another out and make to big of changes and lose their profit margin because they spend to much in retooling then if they left everything alone. Agco has done the right decisions on the companies that they buy and close plants where they can combine products in to other plants to cut down the overhead cost of labor and outsource their parts so all the cost isnt all on them.My point is Allis Chalmers made bad decisions but, their biggest problem was they were to diversified, and should have stayed with farm equipment and construction and done away with other parts of the company that they were losing money on.That is what hurt them the most.Deutz bought them for the dealer net work and that is about it.They got it stuck to them by Agco in the long run and now the same group owns them. They have good products but nothing like allis chalmers.AllIS CHAlMERS would still be around if they would have bullet proofed their products more and made them more stronger in where they had weak spots and done away with areas of the company that cost them more money in the long run.CASEIH has been hurting more since Fiat bought them than if they would have stayed on their own.I hope if Steiger gets bought by AGCO that they do paint it the green that it always was and get AGCO back into the 4x4 market with a product that will sell ,and give them a leading edge. That is the name of the game nowdays to make a good product that sells and to make a good profit margin on the product. That is more than i can say for some with the overpriced and overrated products of deere and company with their king of the mountain ,nobody has anything that measures up to their product attitude.AGCO is doing something right to be the only farm equipment company making money, and i hope they do buy Steiger and have a 4x4 that sells weather under Steiger name or under their own Agco name with orange paint it doesnt matter to me.It is about time that they get more products that sell and compete against the others,so be it if they do it by buying the best 4x4 in the bussiness ,Steiger.

First of all you guys are kinda full of crap on the durablity of the old Allis equipment. We switched in the 70's from green to orange, and yes, ifthey made it we have a good chance at having owned it. We did have some minor problems with the 7580, but 7000, 7020, (2) 8030, 8550, 4w220, 4w305, several Gleaners have all been trouble free. We have and have had a couple air cooleds and honestly they should have kept a line with them engines in there. We never I repeat never had any problems with the aircooled engines. Have a 9670 turning 235 hp and it runs great, also its very kind on fuel consumption for that kinda power

We also have had good luck w_ the old Allis line. As a matter of fact, better luck than the few Deere tractors we've owned. Have a 6070, 7080, 8070fwd, 2 8550's, 4w220 and a 4w305. Also have had over the years a K2, F2, M2, R6, 2 N5's, N7 and R62. like the 4w305 the best and would like to find another one.

You are partially correct, AC was broke but not from attitude or poor management. GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS that were never paid for by good old Uncle Sam is what put the hurtin on AC. If AC had been like JD and told the US Gov to screw themselves and done nothing to help develop many industries in the US and world they would be here today just like JD. Then Deutz came in and trashed the ag business and technology that AC was well known for. AC customers didn't want PUKE GREEN AirCooled Diesel White tractors, they wanted Orange AC tractors with all the INNOVATIONS. Tenneco was smart enough to realize that IH had a larger following than Case and went with the paint and many other parts and machines from IH and its technologies, not much Case in a CIH. Deutz and the US Government was AC's destruction.

Hey John - we have two puke green tractors on our farm and quite frankly, I'd rather have a tractor that looks like puke than RUNS like puke like our 4020 did back when we had one. At least our Deutz tractors start when we need them and will put a whole day of work in without overheating at the first sign of work. You get used to the color after awhile too. Tom langan

I'm located in Virginia believe it or not. You probably didn't think there was much ag. over here. We still have all the big Allis'. We work alot of wet land around the Chesapeake Bay. Need the Big Boys to help w_ the mud at times. Have repowered one of the 8550's w_ 400 big cam. Hard to hold it back now. There used to be a Allis dealer 5 miles from me when I started farming. It has since closed it's doors. The only dealer I know of in the state is about 40 miles from me now. All the Allis tractors have just about disappeared from the area now. I am a small island of Orange in a sea of Green. That doesn't bother me though. I'd rather carry my Green on my hip than on my tractors if you know what I mean.

So far as Agco getting the chance to buy Steiger from CaseIH, I doubt that will happen. I work for a CaseIH dealer in the southeast. No articulated tractors are sold within 200 miles of our dealership but I've been to new product meetings that referred to these tractors among other products. The information`I got from the factory reps. were that these tractors had market share over Deere and that it was a pleasure for the dealers selling these tractors. They said that the tractors were priced several thousand over their green competitors but dealers didn't have any problem selling them. I think the only way AGCO could get the Steiger division would be to buy the whole thing. Seems to me that would be doubtful as well. Just my 2 cents from a Case IH salesman and a proud R52 Gleaner owner.

FIRST of all, alot of us arent full of anything. The problem is there are alot of you who to be blunt about it run your equipment to hard for the hp that your tractor is putting out.AC had their weak points like everyone else but it gets pretty old on the here to hear people that just plain like to run Allis chalmers in the ground.I find it more with the green owners than anyone.I dont understand what the problem is with some of you.Dont expect something to run and last if you are overabusing it in the first place. There is a stress level on anything and when it gets abused so much it is going to break. If you have had luck with your DEUTZ aircooled ,good for you,but i wouldnt own one because their is to many of them around here in my area of ohio that i have heard to many complainsts from Dealers who have had nothing but problems with them, you are one of the few who has had luck with them.If you are happy with your aircooled ,you are one of the few who is.The 8000 series was one of the best series of tractors and it is a shame that they arent still being made in a updated version because agco would sell alot of them if they had more power with a bullet proof tranny but we dont have to worry about that.Be happy with what you have or do what everybody else does and go buy a name and paint and pay more for it.It is just that simple.
