I guess I don't understand why you seem so down on EVERYTHING. life is to short for that.

There is a local ethanol plant that installed a bio-mass burner and is burning the "syrup". They have reduced their dependence on natural gas and are getting rid of a by-product at the same time. The only value of the "syrup" is to the cattle feeder.

Canuck, I'm interested in the energy balance for the ethanol production process. Could you point me to a site that breaks down the amount of energy consumed to create the ethanolIJ Thanks, Mike

Here is one link for the economics of ethanol production. Ethanol as a motor fuel does not seem economic but remember there are tax incentives plus the fact that these plants also produce food grade ethanol that IS very lucrative Here is the link www.news.cornell.edu_releases_Augo1_corn-basedethanol.hrs.html BTW I'm not negative...just realistic

www.news.cornell.edu_releases_Aug01_corn-basedethanol.hrs.html The"0" between Aug and 1 is a zero...sorry about that

Thanks for the link. I've not had time to really reseach this topic, but I think this link will show that the data from Cornell is dated and widely disputed. Take a look and see what you think. Mike

Very disputed indeed. Of the half a dozen different accounts, none match. I did find it interesting that using corn to make ethanol drives up the price of food so much, especialy meat. Another thing I read is that drying corn, depending on the moisture, uses more energy per acre than tillage, planting, chemicals and harvesting. Thanks for the info Mike. Will take a few days to digest it all
