During a post season service with about 800 hours on machine we found loose bearing on bottom of vertical auger. This was surely loose because wet material sat in there long enough to eat seal which let junk in. We drilled hole next to bearing to hopefully let water out and made easy open door that they will hopefully open if caught in the rain. Bearing was also getting loose in gearbox because seal was allowing dirt in. We installed grease zirk so if he keeps it greased it will keep seal fresh. Bolts that hold gearbox in need to be brought up flush and then jam nuts tightened very well. May need to make wrench to get these tight. You can only get open end of wrench on these and they need to be tightened with quality wrench until nut is basically rounding off. Next thing is maybe reason some have troubles and some don't. Books are very unclear on timing the augers. They seem to suggest that end of flighting on vertical auger should trail or leed starting of flighting on horizontal auger by 1_2 turn. I checked some new machines and they were assembled just about anywhere. I then called Gleaner and they suggested to install horizontal auger with start of flighting trailing end of vertical flighting by 1_4 turn. It may not even matter but this is how we set it up. We'll see how things worked out the next time we get it in. Good luck.
