Yes I agree with you on that about the EU getting more money then the US. But trying farming in Canada where you are getting chicken scratch for financial aid, and zero subsides and gaurenteed prices!

Bob: You are wrong it is the American Govt's fault... The U.S.A. says it is a country that believes in free trade, well it is about time for it to put up or shut up. You American farmers can't expect to recieve large govt. payments to produce grain and then say that your largest trading partner is unfairly selling grain to millers in the States.(grain that the American farmer can't supply because of our higher quaility) It is about time for the U.S.A. to take the high road, if you want to talk the talk then you should walk the walk. Do you remember several years back (the 60) when the canadian dollar was worth more than the american dollar $1 can. brought $1.10 american and american farmers tryed to take wheat to canadaIJ So you can complain about every thing you want its still a canadian problem. governments make trade agreements not individuals.

I can comment from both sides of the fence. First I am Canadian Who farms a bit and does custom harvesting, about 60% of my work is in done in the U.S. I have asked my U.S. customers about the subsidies they get to a man each one has told me they wish they would not have them. They have told me that all the subsidies do is drive up the price of the land rent or the price of land or the price of inputs. Her are some numbers for you where I farm in Canada you can rent land for about $13.00 CDN. per cultivated acre. The price to rent an acre of land in North Dakota is $28.00 U.S. Where I farm in Canada you can buy a quarter section for about 35 to 40 thousand dollars CDN. In North Dakota a quarter section will sell for about 70 to 80 thousand U.S. dollars. Where I farm in Canada you pay about $8.00 CDN to spray an acre with a generic form of roundup. In North Dakota it is about $9.00 U.S. to spray an acre with roundup.To buy a pound of Canola seed in Canada I wil pay about $2.00 per pound. In North Dakota you would pay about $5.00 U.S. per pound. The point I am trying to make is if we had the same subsidies in Canada as the U.S. we would not have any more money left in our pockets. Farming is the same on both sides of the border. The only difference is our American friends are having more money pass through their hands but don't end up with anymore money in their pockets.

Bob: Again your wrong, the reason American's can't deliver wheat into Western Canadian (C.W.B.)system is because of the difference in quality between the wheat grown on either side of the border. The same reason American millers want Canadian durum and spring wheat, we grow a higher quality wheat with a higher standard of grading.Anyone who is mad about something that happened in the 1960s needs to get over it.. This trade challenge was asked for by the farmers in North Dakota this isn't a Canadian govt problem it is an American farmer problem. Your right about one thing govt's make trade agreements, so maybe your govt should live with the ones they make, and quit breaking them. Neil

So it's my fault that the Canadian govt. doesn't pay you any subsidysIJ What do you want the US farmers to do, Not take the payments that are given to usIJ My banker is pretty understanding but I don't think he's going to go for that. If you think its so easy down here why don't you move to the US and get these BIG government checks like we do. By the way I just did my taxes and last year my Total payment from the govt was a whopping $8048. Better than nothing but not exactly getting rich.
