I have automatic updates enabled on my laptop, and so I don't have to worry about bugs and malware. Did you try to troubleshoot it before going for a new one? I have realized that, at times, upgrading the RAM could offer a lasting solution.If by update you mean the Windows, I update it whenever I'm prompted. Or when I know a new version came out.
Mine usually lasts 3 to 5 years. I had one where the Gmail stopped loading fast, it would take a good 3 minutes to be able to do ANYthing with my mail, and it was with any browser I used. That's when I knew I needed a new laptop
