Combines value of nice F 3

This past winter I ran into an f3 which turned out to be the machine I bought new in 1987, and traded for JD 9400 in 1989.Needless to say it wasn't how I remembered it from '89.The machine has hydro,all the options possible, and a 315 flex head (the dealer had already sold the corn head before I found it on the lot).It's condition was very well used but not hurt with 2500 eng. hrs.I paid $20,000.00 can.If you are close to Ontario and are willing to sell heads seperate I need a 430 corn head.Hope this helps. looked at several F3's similar to yours, asking anywhere from 17 to 25 grand,CAN, depending on heads. If you are not too far away, I might be interested,post a bit more info--hours, options, etc. if you can. bacman there are lots of 430's in Ontario, check the Ontario Farmer paper, or tell me what you need, and perhaps I can help. Just saw a very clean, late-model F2 sell at an auction today with excellent 430 corn head and 315 bean head, all for $3100.00 US. This was in NW Iowa. F2 had AC_Heat, chopper, no hydro, and manual unfolding auger. I know it's not an F3, but it may be useful as a close comparison. Digger

I forgot to mention that this F2 that sold today had 2100 hrs. Again, it sold for $3100.00 US which included 430 corn and 315 bean heads.

The combine's value will probably be limited for the same reason that you are selling it. Here in West Tennessee my F3 variable speed brought $5,000 two years ago with a 438 (more popular here)and a 316 Flex. It took me over a year to sell it for that and I thought I was lucky. I understand that these machines hold their value in other places better. In the condition yours is described as, it should bring about $12,000 even here. I forgot to mention that the closest dealer is about 60 miles away from me. Have you looked at fastlinefinder.com and machinery pete to see what some are advertised for on dealer lotsIJ That is a good starting point. bh

I would keep the machine. The money and work that you have put into it will pay dividends in RandM timeliness. The other thing is you know this machine and the way that it has been used for a good period of its life. The risk of going to a bigger used machine are that many are not going to be in the best of shape. You will be trading up in capacity, however, the potentional for downtime during harvest could be more of headache. Just my two cents.

I have a 1983 f3 hydro diesel with only 1150_850 hours, green stripe 430 head and 313 flex. all excellent. not ready to sell but the value in my area for this set up is $17,000 to $20,000.

Do you know who bought itIJ A lot of those smaller midwestern machines end up in one of 3 places--Stitzel's in Hamburg, PA; Keiter's in Halifax, PA; or Zeisloft's in Bloomsburg, PA. All three are big-time used combine jockeys, and that size machine is still useful here.

Ben; I have been watching the Ontario Farmer and found a few heads with a huge range in price!!! Does a A430 head fit which came off an f2IJ Is there a big difference between a long snout or short.We only have 100 acres of corn and didn't want to spend big money, but didn't want to buy junk either.You get what you pay for I guess, if a person knows what to look for...Rick
