Combines value of nice F 3

Pretty well all heads from an F series will fit any other F series combine, provided they have the quik tach hooks. The A in the model name indicates the head is adjustable 2" wider or narrower from the nominal size (black frame heads)Black frame heads are much more desireable than an orange one, and are 'modular' in the sense that the row units are detachable from any head --2 to 8 row-- and can fit on any other head provided they are an inside unit or an outside unit, and that 95 percent of the shafts, sprockets, bevel gears, tin etc are interchangeable. As far as I know. the snouts are the only difference in long or short snouts--about 6 inches longer, thus easier to slide under badly downed corn--remember last yearIJ New parts are available but expensive, I picked up a 2 row for $100, probably only did couple hundred acres total, so there were some cheap parts. If a dealer has only the head for sale, no combine with it, make a cash offer for half or two thirds; they may just be glad to move it since four row stuff seems to becoming obsolete in southern Ont. Pretty sure that all heads are very similar wether a '78 model or a 1988 model. Good luck. Ben
