I live in Indianapolis but still have the part of the family farm in East Central Indiana. Farmstead been in the family since 1852. I crunch numbers on municipal bond issues for a brokerage firm but still help the neighbors plant and harvest for the heck of it. I have 3 Farmall Hs. I use the neighbors JD 4240s, 750 drill, forget the corn planter number. Harvest with a JD 6620 T2. Nice machine BTW.

I am from Northwest Ohio, Edgerton to be exact, the last town in before you get to Indiana on US Route 6. My father and I farm about 1,000 acres with the help of a couple of my friends. My buddy and I own a 6620 and I just bought a 9500. We have a corn, soybean, wheat rotation. All no-till. I work full-time as an electrical engineer for a medical device manufacturer and my father is a full-time certified crop advisor for a local fertilizer and chemical co-op. We use a Ford 8600 and 8000 as well as an Oliver 1650 and Cockshutt 50. All are still in service today. Plant corn with two 6 row JD7000 no-till planters and rent two 750 15ft no-till drills.

nope, both the 6620 and 7700 are still for sale. they are being cleaned up now that harvest is pretty much complete. the 9500 is working out great. that 7700 would make a great machine for someone with a little patience and a good preventive maintenance schedule. it's in great shape now, but there is a reason for that. take care of problems before they become problems.

Amen on the preventitive maintenance. Especially on a combine where hours can really age a combine early if not well taken care of. Too bad my farm neighbor doesn't think that way.

My dad, three brothers and I farm in Story County, Iowa near Ames home of the Iowa State Cyclones. We farm around 13,000 acres of soybeans, corn, seed corn, and custom pick seed corn for area farmers and down in southern Florida in November and December, unless the hurricanes already pick it for us. We have six Byron seed corn pickers with nine row corn heads, 9750 sts and 9610 combines with 30 feet platforms, 12 row 30" corn heads and row crop heads . Both of the combines will be rolled over next fall in this John Deere program our dealer offers, if the price is right. We also rent two more combines for our soybeans and they were a 9550 and 9510 with 30 feet platforms. We have two 24 row 30" planters, a 12 row 30" planter, 44 feet air disk drill, with an arsenal of semi's, John Deere tractors and equipment. We also have eight full time employee's, a few part timers and retired farmers that just still have the itch to farm. We use to have Case IH combines and lease Gleaners both good machines but we have had better luck with John Deere and there service.
