    Similar to dogwood trees?

What about Bradford pear trees? Their blooms look similar to dogwoods, and the trees grow to be about the same size as dogwood trees, too. They usually grow to about 30 to 50 feet tall.

    Growing lemon verbena

Lemon balm is a bit hardier than lemon verbena. They both have a nice scent. Lemon balm tends to grow as a perennial in much of America while lemon verbena must be planted again year after year.

    Low-maintenance beauties?

Canna lilies are pretty, and they have a nice smell, too. They need to be kept moist, but if you accidentally forget to give them a drink occasionally, they will still be okay. If you like orange flowers, marigolds are very easy to care for. I have some growing in my backyard.

    Separate Homes for Baby Calves

We separate our calves, too, but we just house them in their own little space together. We don't have individual houses for them, but that's a cool idea if you have the means to build several little houses.

    The problem with teacup pigs

A lot of people do not know that teacup is a name breeders give to potbellied pigs they've malnourished to keep small. It's really quite a sad practice. Sure, potbellied pigs are smaller than regular farm pigs, but they certainly aren't as small as a lot of breeders advertise.

Why the rush to gun stores

I wondered the same thing. It could be concern over home invasions. I can't imagine what the sudden rush is. I think people just like feeling like they can control something right now with so much uncertainty. But it's not going to be a good situation if newbies are buying guns and not...

Feeling Blessed During This Tough Time

I am feeling pretty blessed right now. Not only do we have the means to grow much of our own food and to share with others if they need it, but we have a lot of land. This allows us to go outside as we like. We don't have to worry about keeping our distance from others when we're walking around...

Turkey eggs, peafowl eggs, and goose eggs

I have eaten turkey eggs before. They actually taste pretty similar to chicken eggs. Turkey eggs are a little bigger, though. I haven't been adventurous enough to try goose eggs, either.

    Remedies when skunked?

I hope my dog never gets skunked. I bet your poor kitty smelled awful! I had a friend who's cat got skunked once. He was an all white boy. My friend had heard that tomato juice gets rid of the skunk smell, so he gave his kitty a nice tomato juice bath and then a regular bath because tomatoes...

What To Do With An Old Barn

If your barn is sturdy enough, it could be used for storage. My parents used their old barn to store tractors, extra feed, and so forth. Do you have a newer barn where you keep livestock? What would you do with the space if you tare down the old barn?

How Did You Decide on Farming?

I grew up on a farm, so getting my own farm someday only seemed natural to me. Did you grow up on a farm? Did you start a farm after working in the corporate world? If so, why did you decide to leave the corporate world and go to farming?

    Livestock Checkups

We haven't done routine checkups here, but we really should. It's important to try to prevent health issues when we can. I think I'll call our vet to see when he can make a visit.

6 Point Vs 12 Point Socket

12 point sockets are fine if you need to make lightweight repairs, but for more heavy-duty jobs, a 6 point one is better. We have both here. The 6 point sockets are less prone to slippage.

    Brrrr. Negative weather

It's been in the 30s and 40s here. I know a lot of people don't like the cold and snow, but I actually don't mind it. I love to build snowmen with my kids when it's nice and snowy!

    Canning?

I'd like to start canning this summer, but I don't know the first thing about it. Where do I start? Are there any good resources I can use to educate myself?
