    Microwave problems

Have you tested it yourself? Maybe the fan is blocked, so it's unable to remove the hot air. Maybe your employees really are making a mess and failing to clean it up. I'd test it first.

    NY Governor

I feel sorry for his daughters especially. It's just sad for them. I believe the accusations are true and that he should step down. Cuomo isn't Matt Gaetz or Donald Trump. The same predatory behavior that flies in one circle, won't fly in another. He should know better.

    Keeping business out of politics

I could really use some tips on keeping my business politically neutral without facing backlash from customers. There's a huge mess going on in Georgia about voting rights. It seems like customers want us to choose sides though, and it's small business owners that stand to lose.

    Time for cookouts

It's so hot that anything is better than cooking inside and heating up the house even more! We've been grilling out regularly. Grilled chicken and veggies are sure to please at my house.

    Freshwater pond

Catfish and shrimp are popular choices around here. I'm not sure if it's true, but I've been told that they go well together because catfish won't actively hunt the shrimps' fry.

    Cucumbers

Generally, there are two types - slicing cucumbers and pickling cucumbers. I planted some of each because I like eating them in salads and on sandwiches and my kids love pickles. Sadly, all of my cucumber plants were destroyed by a pest while I was away from home. I might plant some more in...

    U-pick operation going strong!

That's great news, @OhSusanna! How fantastic that people are coming out to pick fresh produce from your berry farm. I'm not surprised. I think most people are just ready to move on.

    The Olympics

I enjoy the track and field events the most. Usain Bolt got me into the sport because I enjoyed watching his antics. He seems like a good fellow on and off the track. He's retired now, so he won't be in Tokyo as far as I know. I'm a runner too, but I can't imagine having his speed.

    Getting flats/packs/crates back from customers

Do you guys ask customers to return your flower and veggie flats, packs, and crates? I'm selling things straight from my own homestead, so I have to buy those supplies. I know it's just a cost of doing business, but they're becoming costly to replace. Should I ask the customers to return them...

    Spooked by firecrackers?

@RichZ, same here! My chickens and goats aren't bothered, but my dogs and cats are terrified of them. I could swear the goats are laughing at the dogs sometimes when they hide.

Garden shredder - my new must-have

I bought a garden shredder on a whim, and I'm so glad that I did because it has quickly become a must-have piece of equipment. I live in a large city, but our property backs onto the woods. Sometimes things get a little overgrown. Using a mower could damage the blades or unbalance the deck...

    Your season so far?

My cucumbers are a bust. I was away from home, and I guess the cucumber beetles took that as their signal to go to town on my cucumbers. I can't really complain though since everything else is ticking right along. My tomatoes are particularly prolific this year.

    Locally foraged salad

I personally don't see why, but foraged salads are also a popular add-on with our CSA members. I live in the South, so pokeweed is usually a top choice as the base, since it grows here in abundance. Wild strawberries, dandelions, morels, ramps, wild mustard flowers, chickweed, and wood sorrel...

    Certified Naturally Grown

I have the certification and I'm proud of it! The CNG label is most often seen at the farmers market and through CSAs. Since you're directly dealing with the customers and likely forming relationships with them, it's easy to explain what the certification means. Customers understand that the...

    The Ark of Taste

I grow some tomatoes from their list. I'm a CSA grower and our local group manager encourages us to try one or two things from their list each growing season. I suppose it's good for advertising. I don't mind. They're heritage plants, so they're generally easy to grow.

    Finicky eaters

This might sound strange, but having the children help in the kitchen is what got them to try most foods at least once or twice. If they had a hand in chopping it up, cooking it, or even just plating it, they were happy to taste it. I don't know the psychology behind it. Maybe it was just a...

    Combine harvester

They're only useable on a few crops and those aren't my specialty, so I have no use for one. They might be beneficial for the environment if you think about it. Using a combine harvester means you'll need to make fewer passes over the field. That should mean less gas and fewer carbon emissions.

    Best value for family meat?

I've wondered about it too. I'm not sure that chickens are the best value either, not without selling some of the eggs at least. To make a profit with livestock I think it needs to be a large operation.

    Homesteading as a singleton?

Homesteader here. If you were planning to move to the wilds of Alaska and set up a homestead from scratch as a single woman, then yes, I think it would probably be a struggle. You can start homesteading anywhere. Heck, I live in an urban area and I homestead. Just start with what you have...

    Helping the unhelpful

I tend to be more forgiving when it comes to family, even when I know they don't care for others. I never stop helping family. I'm more capable of drawing boundaries with friends and acquaintances when they start taking advantage.
