This my first post to this board, but I have read it for years. I find this whole 8010 discussion to be quite amusing, with the colour conspiracies and the great "who is farmertony" mystery. Some facts for the discussion... I was responsible for the startup and infield performance of a number of 8010's in my region and have 20 years experience with axial flow combines. We harvest cereals, pulse crops and oilseeds with huge amounts of straw, but no corn or soybeans. The verdict... they're not perfect, (there were some, not many, quality control issues),but they stayed in the field real well for the first full year of production. There was a measured 30 - 40% increase in capacity over '04 2388's in very tough harvest conditions. We had no more startup concerns than the new greens or yellows in our area, and the others are old technology. The 8010 certainly behaves differently than the 23's as far as fine tuning the combine, but once you learn how they operate, you can get a superb sample with excellent capacity. The verdict... we have more customers wishing to buy than we can get supply. Why do they want to buyIJ Because they rode with the owners and talked to the owners and see the capabilities of this machine. If reliabilty was a real issue in our area, they would have run away in droves. We have a very short (less than on month on average) time frame in which to get the harvest off before the snow flies. The 8010's are not for everyone, and for most farmers, the 2388's are still the best choice. But for those who need the big capacity of the 8010, it will serve them well. I have heard of a couple of 8010's in western Canada that did not perform as well as expected, but they were a very small percentage of the total, no more than other colours see on average. The 8010 is here to stay, and I look forward to seeing the combine improve year after year, just as the original axials did.
