Is the engine the same in the 40 and 50, just turned upIJ

Yup. And one more difference, if I remember correctly, is the R40 has a two strand main drive belt while the R50 has a three strand. By main drive belt, I mean the one that comes off the engine. The two strand would probably be fine as long as you keep an eye on it and replace it as soon as it shows deterioration so it doesn't snap due to the added power going through it. Good luck!
