the easiest way to change them is to lay a sheet of plywood over the chaffer and crawl in there and lay on your back and change them. it is not to bad if you have an electric impact, air gun are okay but they stir up alot of dust. if you want to take them out the elevator does not need to come out.

I already took the side panel off. Thought I'd check bearings at the same time and if they would come out, that would be easier. Thanks for answering slims. lee

Yes. Close the chaffer down and put a piece of plywood on top and slide right in. Make sure that you do not tighten the bolts down with an impact wrench. It can strip the holes. Just go by the recomended torque specs that the new lugs come with. I usually put lock tight on them also. Clean it out good with an air gun before you lay in there, otherwise you will be eating alot of dust. Good luck.

Yes,but:I did just that a year ago.today I pulled the shaft to put new bearing on and I must say that next time I need to change lugs,I will pull the shaft.Just my oppinion.

I have changed the accelerator rolls out through the back doors of the combine.

run combine for about a minute to clean out, get up and WASH out the accel rolls from the top a day before doing the job, remove top chaffer, lay a piece of plywood on seive, you lay on top of plywood and using an air inpact gun with extension remove and replace one blade at a time, the blades have the holes slighly offset so if the holes are slightly off swap it end for end. About 2 hours from start to finish.

remove the rear dist auger (very simple) and do it from the back, thats how i do on our R5
