Combines afx rotor

Here in the UK there is at least one of the new type rotors working, the only reports i've heard are in barley where it is at least 10% faster and up to 25% faster in some conditions. The peak loads on the engine are less so improving fuel consumption and probably belt life! I've heard that it has an auger type feed instead of the impeller but have never seen it with my own eyes.... DGJ

I think the main thing about the AFX is the auger front that replaces the impeller blades.

Do you really need a bigger combine, or are you just trying to satisfy you jealousy over you neighborsIJ I don't want to sound too sarcastic. But we had STS's and we just got a questionaire from a guy in Australia who is completely fed up with his STS. I can surely name you red people who got bribed by the green sweep program and went back, because the green rotor couldn't give to them what the red one does - quality. I have talked to a custome harvester, who ran an experimental AFX last summer. He wasn't impressed. I concluded therefor, that the AFX wasn't quite ready to be sold. we're going to look at the "experimentals" again this year, just wait and see.

Dakota, What were the complaints with the AFX rotor from that custom harvesterIJ That is the first negative comment I've heard about it. I was planning to go to that rotor the next time I trade. Email me if you do'nt want to post it. K.A.

The guy didn't really complain about it. But at the same time he didn't see any improvement either. The AFX rotor performed just as good or bad as his other 2388s. He said, there was no reason to switch to the AFX.

We ran AFX this year in corn and beans. We were in a spot where it rained as needed so crop was good. The rotor I feel is a improvement over previous models. less rotor noise and more capacity. However the rotor belt slipped ocassionaly, which Case is addressing for 2003. Bigger pulleys on rotor drive.

Have a question. Were there any mods. done to the trans. cone to accomodate the AFX rotorIJWhat I am speaking of is if the vanes were repositioned. The elephant ears must have to make 1-1_2 revolutions to get the crop into the concave, and it looks like the AFX only needs 1_2 rev.Seems like the vanes could actually hold the crop back.Just curious. The new front looks like a big improvement.

I don't know about the vains. Seems to me they are the same as previous models. The limiting factors for us,engine horsepower in beans, clean grain elevator capacity in corn and belt slip on rotor drive in beans. Running in soybeans with a 2388 at 4 to 5 MPH 30' platform not a problem.

Did he say anything about better performance in damp conditions, or green stem soybeans compared to the old ones. That's the main area that I think the STS shines.
