Combines afx rotor

If you want to make sure you are good for notil, add a shark tooth grate, even if you have a chopper. Everything comes out in 8" pieces, and will no longer plug your notil.

We ran the Estes Disrupters (qty 9) in the rear grate for a few years which did a nice job of grinding up the straw when it was dry. However, we didn't like the power in took and in damp straw there was little effect. To be fair, we didn't have the spiked bars on the rotor. last year we mounted 4 sickle sections in the back two grates to hopefully cut up the straw with less HP. It worked to some extent, but I think we will run 12 of them this year, four in each grate. I've considered the Shark Tooth Grate a few times, but have not tried it. For my $, I like the chopper fitted with the aftermarket sickle sections. It does a real nice job, but it sure is hard to justify adding one to an old machine. Mike

When Terry does a rotor he hardfaces nearly all of the wear surfaces. This rotor had the chrome plated Case elephant ears on it and they hardfaced the leading edges. They also hardfaced part of the mounts and the separator bars on back. We went with the high-chrome iron St. John rasp bars, which are hard all the way through like Gorden bars. These rotors have been in multiple machines and have yet to wear out. At this point it's kind of a mystery how long they will last, but it's thousands of hours. That price for the AFX is the lowest I've heard. You might check into the condition of your vanes in the transition cone and the transport vanes. CIH says to make sure they are in good shape when you go with the AFX and recommends the HD ones.

Thanks Mike for your reply. I have a Shelborne for the wheat so I don't have your planting problem. I like to keep my residue as course as possible as it seems to last longer that way. Have 50" spreaders (one mounted on a longer shaft as they over lap) that do an excellent job of spreading green stem bean mog over the full 30' and no trouble drilling in that. The St. John is getting more and more appealing all the time!

If you need to keep the maximum amount of residue the St. John rotor would be worth a look. It threshes with less rotor speed and more concave clearance, resulting in less damage to the residue. Most people are interested in this because it takes less HP and decreases the load on the shoe, allowing higher ground speed. I'm hoping to pick up 1 mph in wheat. Call Terry and tell him what you are wanting to do. He's really helpful. Maybe he'll give me a commission! lOl Mike

Sounds good! 3.5 mph ain't bad. A lot better than the old days when we harvested at .5 mph. I ordered the Stewart Steel kit to take the place of the elephant ears on my 2388, so we'll see how it works in a few weeks. Is that yield lower than what you usually makeIJ I've have heard some of the yeilds down there are somewhat less than usual. Up here, 7000 - 8000 lbs. is about the norm most years. Some of the earliest fields have been drained up here. We will be draining some of ours late next week, probably. Good luck with the rest of your harvest.

anything over the 40bbls mark is to brag, last season conventional rice we averaged 7600n green ac cl161 averaged 8100nac overall what I hear around is about 6000n ac on the early harvest got rained out today only 2 trucks cut trying to finish 80ac I think the yields will increase as we move along with the harvest the later rice was not flowering when the rains were here but we will see ps. cl 161 averaged an additional 1600nac on a ratton crop in 03!!

If you don't mind me asking, about how much does the Stewart Steel ear conversion kit cost and can it be installed on a standard rotor (or would that not work out)IJ Thanks

Yeah, that's where ya'll have a big advantage over us. We just can't make a good ratoon crop. A few people have tried it, and it works every once in a while, but usually it's just a waste of money.
