You are right Illinois Gleaner. You and I are lucky to be living in countries that allow us to say things as we see them with out the fears of a police state. The USA is a marvellous country with water, soil, scenery and resources that I could only marvel at while I was there. If I was born in the USA, I would think and act like an American. Instead I was born in the small country, people wise, of Australia. I think and act like an Aussie and therefore I see many things in the world differently to Americans. Cheers!

That is exactally why I wasnt appauled by your statement about our subsidies.I love to see people stand for what they believe. On the other hand when I hear someone here, who has a good job at say "Cat" set and say how us complaining farmers get all of those payments from the government. Now that pi$$es me off, because there jobs has had just as much if not more government subsides as the farmers in this country. IG

The sad thing is ROM, that the government money, IMO, is destroying our own farming communties as well. The way the money is doled out, it fosters what I see as a vicious circle of self-defeating competition, especially in the Corn Belt. The more acres you have under your control, the more per acre payments you get. You are told by "experts" that you have to make your farm bigger to be more competive, because the bigger you are, the more buying power you have, so your input costs will be lower, and you'll be spreading your machine costs over more acres. So you go out and expand by bidding up land prices or cash rent rates. And then you end up selling more grain at lower prices. So, you need more acres, so you can get more payments, so you can increase your buying power to get cheaper inputs, but now you need bigger machines . . . So now you need more acres, to get more payments, so you can increase your buying power to get cheaper inputs, so you can get bigger machines to cover the increased acres and-- oh wait, grain prices are even lower now, so you need more acres, so you can get more payments, so you can increase your buying power . . . . . I don't get a lot of money from the FSA, because hay isn't subsidized and I'm not a big-time grain farmer, and what corn and grain I do have I've found niche markets to sell it in (at considerably higher than CBOT prices). Could I survive an elimination of subisidiesIJ If you look only at the low level of government money I actually receive and discount it from my yearly statement, yes. However, even though I'm in the Northeast US, the turmoil caused in the Corn Belt by subsidy elimination could disrupt my operation indirectly and disasterously.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing we need is to produce less bu,for more price,or we are doomed as farmers here in the US. Why do you think Oil Companies are making money. They only produce enough to keep us in a shortage. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IG

Yes, I suppose Perkins would supply the dipstick, although you would think AGCO would be treated better on parts prices, what with thier strategic allliance with CAT! I suppose the moral of this story is that AGCO has, in the past, has built many of thier products with compnent parts (Duetz engines, Cummins engines, Detroit engines, Funk transmissions, etc.) and exorbinant parts prices should be somewhat expected!

I did a Google search and there is a Burden Surplus Center. It is www.surpluscenter.com. Don't know if it is the right one.

tbran, thanks for looking this up. I only need 2. They are used to connect rear wheel drive hydraulic hoses from older (98 R72) to newer style hydro pump with clamp type fittings (late 2002 R62. On the 98 R72 the RWD hoses screwed right into the hydro pump. Thanks again tbran you are the only poster actually making reference to the part numbers I posted. The Gleaner guys sure do read this board. This one posting brought more response than all the other combine boards combined the past few days.
