Combines CR940 vs 2388

For 1400 acres, why wouldn't your boss consider a 2377. My neighbor's brother bought one and, for the difference in price from a 2388, it would easily handle the acreages you're mentioning. I think he mentioned something in the range of $17,000 Cdn less for a 2377 over a 2388. Also, I was recently told that Stratford Farm Equipment has a new 2366 with an attractive price on it, also. (old stock)

I have a 2388 and I have had the chance to drive a CR 940 and one of my customers has a CR 970. So for what it is worth here is my opinion. The first real problem I saw with the CR combines is their stone trap system it is all automatic and I have seen where rocks get by it and the rock makes a real mess of the rotors the 2388 has a manual rock trap which in my 25 years of having axial flows I have never had a rock go through a combine. I think a 2388 would weigh less then a CR. If you get the AFS package on the 2388 the view screen is bigger and easier to read. The CR does have a bigger cab and also has a faster unloading rate then the 2388. The CR also has the electronic shifting no big sloppy gear shifter, the CR also lets you adjust your sieves from the cab has the self leveling sieve system. I think a 2388 would have better resale down the road then a CR would. I myself would buy a new 2388 because I am familar with them your boss on the other hand may go for the Holland which ever he decides on I hope it works for him. I do agree with the earlier post for 1600 aces I don't know how he can justify the cost of a new combine. But like I said this is just my humble opinion.

I was wondering the same thing about buying that big a machine for 1400 acres. I am running about that many acres through my 2144 and could handle more if it were available.

Ya I would agree with you on that.. way too big of combine for that many acres.. I know of a guy close to me in ontario who just bought a 9650 sts and maybe combines 1400 acres a year.. and still gets in help.. I wish I could have that acre to combine ratio lol.

I think there should be some kind of law that says you have to have so many acres to have such and such size of combine. Only then can we stop this scourge of people buying a bigger combine than they should be allowed to have. I just hate it when somebody with fewer acres than me buys a bigger combine.

for that amount of land you only need a good used 2366.Vandenbrink has one with 800 engine hours.Buy my 2366 with 2450 sep. hours and I will buy the one at Vandenbrink. There are farmers around here with 2144-2344,doing 2500 acres with know problem for alot less money and fuel. One has a deere 9550 and does 5500 acres with only one driver and was done before the first of december.

You don't know this place. Give them a 300hp combine and they would still struggle to get things done. Plus this TR88 has no capacity. My grandfather runs a 9400 Deere with a 6r and in 200bu+ corn he runs 3.5-4mph. I'm running 2.3 with the TR and still throwing over but they say it's ok. Anyways not my money. Take care, Nathan

I'm the one and only Red dog, Nathan. The reason I figured it was Heeneys, is that there are not too many TR88 combines in this area. It also sounds like are very familiar with this area. My brother worked for Max for a harvest season. He was a close friend of Anton who lived on the chicken farm that Max owns.
