I hear am going to admit a common fault that we all inertly have. I happened to me, and here is my example. Several years ago when Agco first took over the Massey line Agco had invited some customers to a meeting in Hesston and a plant tour. It was awesome how they were putting together the Gleaner and Massey machines on the same line. This was back when they were still building the 8780XP's. On the bus trip home a fellow Gleaner owner asked me what I thought about that Massey combine and we both agreed that we didnt particularly care for it that much. We really didnt believe in that hydraulicly driven rotor, knowing that Gleaner had proven that the Rotor design does take alot more power we thought NO way would that Massey ever have enough power or way too much power loss through the hydraulics. Well a few years later we had a chance to demo a 9790 cutting beans in the same field as the R-75 and well I had to eat crow. I was so darn impressed by that design that still today I defend it. We purchased a second machine (62) and honestly I was searching for a Massey that was reasonably priced because I knew they had capacity and I also understood at this time the simplicity of the machine. At the time we toured the plant I really would have never made any of these positive comments about the Massey design, although presently the curtain has been pulled from my eyes and my mind opened to the fact that yes indeed the White (Massey) combine is a true competitor in the harvestor market. If you get a chance greenstat, take one for a spin you might actually like it and understand how nice of a machine it was in the past and how it has evolved into the modern harvesting arena. PS as I put post on the Massey page, I seen the proto Massey in Challenger skin and its appearance looks really nice. Coming from a Gleaner fan I want congradulate Massey for stickn in there when times were not so rosey for them from public opinion. I hope they hold on tight as I think they will probably take back some market share they deserve. GO BIG MF !!!!

Silver, I totally agree with you, here. I'm certainly not bashing Deere's great combines in any way. I lOVE them! I do, however, get tired of so many people trying to tell the world that John Deere or any other combine, for that matter, is the best, and how the others are "just junk' or how "they suck" and so on. When choosing any combine, one needs to seriously evaluate which brand is strongest for parts and service backup in his_her locale. Second, make sure the machine is of adequate capacity for the job in a timely fashion. If conidering a pre-owned combine, just make sure it IS in desirable condition, based on one's mechanical aptitude for keeping it in the field. In fact, I believe that anyone who buys any combine or other machine, needs not be a full-fledged mechanic, but he_she NEEDS TO KNOW at least the basic maintenance and proper care of such machinery, or they really have no business owning them and really would be better to just hire the work done.

Deere had the patent on the rotary combine back in 1958.It wasn't untill their patent ran out that IH picked up the patent rights in the late seventies.
