Thanks unit 2 for update! I recieved my grain grabbers for my 25' 1020 header but have not installed them yet. They came with the 17_64th drill bit. Is this the proper bit or is it still too big. Before drilling I'd like to know. Any response greatly appreciated!!

I used the 17_64 bit and stripped two of them out using a cordless drill to run in the bolts. I'd try a 1_4" bit first. The bolts are self tapping as long as the tip will start it should work. As stated before the auger tube is made of very thin metal. If your good just tighten them all 1_4 turn before they strip out!!!!! Wolffman

Definitely do not use the 17_64 bit that they send along in the kit on a CIH auger. Use a 1_4 inch bit. I did not have any trouble getting the bolts to start with a 1_4 inch hole.

I used the grain grabbers on my 1020 this fall cutting soybeans. For the most part I think they helped. There were a few times when they caused the material to wrap around the auger but that was mostly in areas where there was grass in the beans and the grass is what wrapped. I used them in both short dry land beans and tall irrigated beans. I guess on a scale of one to ten I would give them about a seven.

Don't waste your money on them. They did nothing for me in soybeans, short or tall.

We put them on our 30' 1020 last fall. What a waste of money :~((. In grass, green stems, or down beans the stems would wrap around them and thrash beans out throwing them every where. 1st day we ran we broke two off. Within a week we had broken 3 more. Ended up taking all but the last 1 off on each end. If doing it again I would only put one on each outer end, those did seem to help a little.

I had the grain grabbers on a 25' 1020 header last fall cutting only soybeans with it. I got along better with them than a lot of guys on this site did. lot of guys had trouble with the grain grabbers causing the crop to rap around the auger. The only time I had that problem was on the edge of some fields where I had some grass in the beans. The grass would really rap around the auger. For the most part I think they did help it feed better. They were about worn out though on about 1200 acres. Also at that time the drill bit that the company was sending along in the kit was to big and some of the guys that used that bit had trouble with the bolts pulling out. If I remember correctly the bolts in the kit were 3_8 and for a 3_8 tap or self threading bolt you should use a 5_16 bit.

Marginal improvement at best in soys. Had a little wrapping on ends. Not a lot of money, but don't think I'd buy another set! CW

With the above comments I would suggest you think of looking into a header with or modified to FUll FINGER auger.....Works the best for even feeding. JWK Your welcome KR.
