Says whoIJ It's WE who have the feelings. WE also have morals and a conscience. WE have to live with them, too. I have no problem passing on a little love and compassion to something as wonderful as a combine. Those who won't or can't, scare me.

The 301's from F2 is now in G. Traded some parts for turbo, becomes proper G engine. Take G gas engine put on F2, ready for round two next year. Just entering paid $300 this year, so by following such example adds to $800. Never have owned a combine which could pay it's way in only two years. What's the difference in crash and bash than taking off engine, parking in woods, and letting it rot awayIJ I do not smoke, do not drink, and I know who is boss upstairs, so if I am allowed to see the next derby, I plan to be in it. My buddy "6100" knows that if we have 3 combines harvesting, someone has to be unloading the trucks.

I'm not really condemning you for the demo derby as much as I'm just against the derby itself. It's not just about the derby issue, either. As I have already said, it's only one of many things. I just hate it in particular, because it is brutal and destructive. I think it sends a negative message to urbanites about us farmers, who are just struggling to keep our businesses intact. I agree with you about just throwing them away, too. This is why I posted about the History Channel stuff in the first place. I figured here, at least on a combine enthusiasts forum, there would be no one who wants to deliberately smash combines into each other. Yes, it is true they don't deserve that. Neither do we! The point is, that whether a demo derby or selling to a salvage is planned, this grant opportunity is not only going to save a few icons of our past, but give you some financial resorces to do it! If you were paid $2,500, wouldn't you go ahead and restore the F2 or even the G to original conditionIJ I think you would. I hope you would. I thought "6100" was you, just another moniker, since your stories matched. Go ahead and contact HC to see what you can do.

"6100" is friend down the road. He owns the 2166 and since he does not have a cornhead yet, he was glad to have the "G" shelling corn while the 62 was broke down. Reason to change from 350 gas engine to diesel is that with a 630 head in 200+ corn unloading on the go and 15 hr days that girls would burn 100+ gallons of $3.00 gas at 1.5mph. I do not "moniker" and I don't know or recognize "HC". I do understand some of your care for the older machines, and I will take care of what combines trip my trigger. Idle combines will just disenigrate in a matter a few years if left outside in our southern humid_rainy conditions. By the way, how many old combines do you own which are "field ready"IJ

I can see why the changeover to diesel. I've always preferred it myself. less maintenance overall and who wants to mess with points and condensors during the middle of harvestIJ Unless it just bores you to tears, I recommend watching at least some of the History Channel. I love it, not just because of it's accurate capture of ag history, but a lot of stuff about our wars and military campaigns. I am myself, an ag historian. Yes, I can see you prefer more of a real name than a handle like I use. lOl! My combine is a 1973 Massey-Ferguson 510. She's a rescue which was doomed to the scrap yard, not a derby or even a salvage. I was more outraged by such total waste of a good, running machine for the crusher, than the other issues. Oh well, the M-F 510 is safe, but seriously, unless I find a neighbor who will let me cut some wheat, the 510 is plain overkill for only 40 acres of okra seed. Yes, it's a diesel, too. Can't get any better than that. What I really need to get my hands on, is at least 3-4 Model A Gleaners, and use them for my varieties. They sure would not cost much and given the value of my seed, would be paid for within the day!

Nothing wrong with Massey's, I've only been around Gleaners. I'm saving what I can, not many do. Since you should be much closer to Hastings Nebraska, go to ebay and buy the prinstine little E. No more A,E,C's left to find here, scrap metal pays good.

I have only had 2 Gleaners in the past. Both were Model As. I believe that from the A to the G, Gleaner had the simplest design on the market, period. That's not to say some of the older Massey's were not really simple, but look at the Gleaner G beside its period rival, the Massey-Ferguson 510. The 510 is to the G what a lexion is to a Titan! I later sold my Gleaners to good homes before moving out of state. Now, I'm farming different varieties of okra for seed and still want more capacity than All Crops, but don't need something this big, either. As far as scrap metal goes, the price can really fluctuate. You know it's got to be up there for guys to be hunting for the combines, though. Otherwise, with the cost of gas, it's not worth it by weight to have to cut up a lot of sheet metal.

Something immoral about smashing equipment which I ownIJWhat's immoral is taking forced tax dollars from me to hand out in grants. If you want money to fix up_save WHATEVER then earn it yourself! What Bible you reading out ofIJWouldn't be wise to worship combines!

I wouldn't be talking about or making fun of religion here if I were you. It's not allowed. You have the responsibility of stewardship toward your land, machinery and money. Yes, it is wrong and unconstitutional to be taxed the way we are.
