Combines What still might be the best combine

I guess the hub was too weak. After running the combine all summer, they just broke in fall. You have to imagine how much pressure you put on those rear wheels when you turn tight and fast at the end of the rows. The Deere hubs were stronger but their rims were not. We and others had lots of broken rims on JD combines. On some models (like the 470),Claas used a 6 bolt hub. On others (460, 480) they used a 10 bolt hub. The new 470s have a 10 bolt hub and the old 470s will get them all replaced.

Hey dakota, Your operators didn't by chance use the brakes when turningIJ One can make a pretty short turn by pulling back on the hydro lever and hitting one of the brakes, especially with a heavy head on the front. Did you receive my e-mail that I sent you a couple of weeks agoIJ

Of course I used these brakes like I do on any other color combine and like every farmer does on his two wheel drive tractor. But with a twelve row corn head you can get the combine to swing aroung by just pulling back on the hydro half way around. No, I didn't get any email from you.

Hi Dakota, I never did say that the Claas was a piece of junk, I think they are very good machines, but I would never buy one because I beleive and it's my opinion only, that investing in Deere is safer right now plus my STS combine performs great, and I have great dealer service. There isn't a GOOD Class combine Ag Dealer here within 60-80 miles if not a little farther in Northern,MS where I'm from. Most CAT dealers are not that focus on ag, I don't even know some are even still selling lexions.Deere and CASE dealer only 15min away. All I'm saying is that here in the south ClAAS is weak 90% of the farmers around here wouldn't buy one because of dealer support and response time alone, trust me. If Claas get a strong dealer network like Deere or CASE then things could be very good for them. I hope you get my point. Drive down south you can count the numbers of Claas dealers on one hand, that won't get them much market share no matter how good the product. If there wasn't a Deere or Case dealer near me or bad support I want buy them either, but I am happy with the performance of machines I have. STSMAN
