I was to the factory in west Allis in 1980 or 81. They were dismanteling for transport a ship engine that they had built. It was three stories high and when they ran the engine to test it they powered an electric generator hooked up to the power grid. The equipment in that place was amazing. One piece I remember was the tool to grind three foot diameter cranksaft journals.

massey came out with the turrent unloading auger which gleaner has just now put on to their combine, agco is using the dynashift or sychrno shift on the smaller agco tractors, massey started the custom harvesting operations, in 1965 MF was trailing only Class of Germany in world combine sales that proves something, but when deere case ih and gleaner came out with a good combine most of them were already orange or green or red people so they just thought it would be better to go them types of combines that is when massey hit rock bottom. but without MF there would be no agco right now period! but without agco there would be no MF most likely look at the sales MF is leading you aught to listen to the sellers not the people that are not selling.

Well, I've been accused of fighting just for the joy of fighting! ;) So with that, I'm gonna argue that without AGCO, there would be no Massey! AGCO was doing just fine before they bought Massey. As for the turret unloader, I really don't think that Gleaner engineers waited til '96 to use them because they were slow to adapt technology - it's because the swing out is so much simpler, easier on the grain, and requires so much less power to operate. I can garantee if there were large masses of Gleaner owners who were screaming for a turret way back when, they would've gone to it long ago. This is the way I think things went back in the mid '90's - The Gleaner engineering dept had a meeting one day. Somebody there said "look, there are large numbers of farmers out there that haven't caught on to up-to-date technology (Deere owners!) and who still buy new conventional combines. But I think they are also fond of our galvanized wonders deep down inside! What if we made a conventional combine so it wouldn't be such a shock to their view of the world when they finally switched to GleanerIJ It's simply asking too much for these fellas to switch to silver AND modern threshing technology at the same time!" Thus the C62 was born with a turret unloader. And for the guys who really like to live on the edge and switch to a Gleaner rotary, they offered the turret as an option on them too!

How about the Allis cotton stripper. It was light years ahead of John Deere and everybody else. And then all of a sudden Allis stopped making it (~1985). What Agco needs is MARKETING VISION, and I think MR, RAtliff might have it, but he needs to strenghten his dealer organization, he has got to make it profitable for the dealer if he wants any dealers around.

I guess I just wasn't thinking of that little Allis round baler. I have never thought of it as a round baler, more of a square baler.

I'm sticking by my no-till planter. After reading your post I went looking for where I found it. looking at the info now. IH built the first no-till planter in 1947 from a design made by Purdue University. It had coulters and sweeps on the front, bed leverlers on the back. It was known as the M-21, but few were sold. Probably why you haven't heard of it.

I don't make it mean to sound that I have a hate relationship with MF tractors. It just disturbs me that AGCO went with a White design when they came out with the first Allis tractors and now are leaning toward a MF design when they already had something great to build on with the 8000 series A-C's. I'll never understand that.
