    Anything you won't cultivate?

What is a one and done crop? I don't think I've heard that one before. Personally, I'm not going to chase something that won't grow in my area, but I'm willing to cultivate anything that grows here so long as it sells.

Applying for specialty crop grant in 2021

https://www.ams.usda.gov/sites/default/files/media/Combined%20Grants%20Decision%20Trees.pdf I haven't applied for one of those grants before, but just looking at their decision tree, it seems like you'd probably stand the best chance if you apply for the Farmers Market Promotion Program. It...

    Exhibition breeds

Does anyone here raise exhibition breeds? We raise our livestock for meat, milk, eggs, and fiber, so exhibition breeds never held much appeal. What do you do with your exhibition animals? Is it a profitable venture or more about having fun showing off your skills? I'd love to learn more...

    Everything But The Moo

Your thread title drew me in. Who knew that you could use so many cow parts? I never knew that bone china was really made with bones. Interesting!

    Estimation for renting backhoe?

Thanks for the replies. We kind of went with a middle-of-the-road number and called it a day. @jjp8182 It's a neighbor that has the backhoe and after I asked about renting it, no way was I going to back out. I have some fantastic neighbors, and we all try to look out for one another. We're...

    Starting an orange grove

Not yet. I'm not sure that I'll go for it yet. Do you have any nursery recommendations or an idea of whom I should avoid? Since I live in Florida it feels like a no-brainer to start an orange grove. We all love oranges in this family. My neighbors don't have a grove and I don't know anyone...

    Estimation for renting backhoe?

About how much would it cost to rent a backhoe for a few days? I'm in Florida if that makes a difference. This is an awkward situation where the guy wants me to make an offer. He does not set rates or anything like that.

    Homemade animal feed

Commercially made feed is more convenient to use and it's easier to disperse. I could see myself feeding cows and pigs without using commercial food, but I’m not sure that I could get away with it with fowl.

    Starting an orange grove

I'm considering starting an orange grove where I live in Florida. I will probably start small just to help mitigate the financial risk. Is something like this doable for a citrus tree newbie? How soon could the operation expect to break even?

    Hog fencing options

You never have to use an electric fence, but I think it will help if you do. Like you said hogs are known for escaping. Plus, they can be pretty defenseless against some predators when they're young.

    Best winter chore gloves

My favorite pair is a set from Kinco. They're made with pigskin and they're super warm. I never found a more comfortable pair of gloves that made chores enjoyable.

    Bamboo paper towels are trash!

This is a PSA that bamboo paper towels are absolute trash. They're supposed to be better for the environment, but they are the worst at actually cleaning up spills. I just spilled a cup of coffee and had to use an entire roll to sop up the mess. One. Entire. Roll.

Google now translating English to Poultish

Did you guys notice that Google has stepped up to the plate to translate English to Turkey? It's a pretty cute idea and a nice way to end a tough holiday that was tampered by COVID-19.

    Who honors their warranties?

I keep finding tools and other equipment that claims to have a lifetime warranty. But I know I used to buy Craftsman tools and their warranty turned out to be fairly limited once Sears started going under. So, which tool and equipment makers are known for honoring their warranties right now?

    Side unload

I don't have that piece of equipment, but I believe you should be able to tie down and lock the pulley to keep it from turning. I hope you find a solution.

    any florida people here.

I'm in Florida, but I'm not into politics and I doubt I have the answer you're looking for. I run a small hobby farm. I've never worked for less than $15 and I've never paid anyone less than $15 to work for me. Florida is an expensive place to live.

My take on the election. . .

is that Americans seem to really like drugs. So, would you consider growing marijuana or psychedelic mushrooms to get in on the drug boom? I'm not even sure what kind of mushroom is a psychedelic mushroom, but mushrooms in general are pretty easy to grow so it should be lucrative under the...

    Managing soil for planting

I have our soil tested every once in a while, usually when something goes wrong during the season. As far as enhancing the soil goes, if you have an acid loving plant, then crushing some pine needles around the plant will help acidify the soil.

    Leaf blower

I have never heard of a leaf sweeper or a lawn sweeper, but it sounds fun. Leaf blowers are usually super affordable, so why not go ahead and grab one. They're great for blowing the leaves off the driveway and off the roof.

    Flea medicine not working

It's the middle of November and I've discovered that my pets are infested with fleas. None of the usual medicines are working like they used to. Has anyone else noticed that fleas and ticks are sticking around longer and that the medicines are no longer as effective? What time of year do...
