My opinion is that the TR 99 is likely slightly superior harvesting machine.

A big reason I would go with the Case is because of the unloading auger Case has a turet style while NH does not. Also I think resale value with the Case will be better but grain sample with the TR would probably be better. My own opinon is the twin rotor design will be gone when CNH come out with new machine other post is right they will both be old models soon.

2388 usually more $ to trade_buy, depends on dealer circumstances, is a lot simpler to work on. NH was always considered to be a throw away in my area, not easy to work on or cheap to fix. 2388 was the machine that JD aiming for when they came with STS, all comparisions_examples listed in JD salesman handbook are against CNH.

We have a 98 2388 the only things I can think to look for is if it has had the air cleaner update package put on it. The second is the hydraulic oil cooler in the raditator compartment leaked at low hours. Talked to district field man and he said they had a 50% failure rate for that year. He told us to have it fixed at local dealer and case would pay for it. Please note we are the second owners of this machine.

As far as I know, all of the internal components, such as concaves, grates, chaffer and sieve are the same from the late 1680 through the 2388. The major differences are the horsepower, hydraulics and cab.

If I am not mistaking, I think the 2388 is a Class VI machine. I believe that the class of the combine is determined from several factors, like horsepower, capacity, grain tank size, unloading rate, etc. I think the grain tank on the 2388 is not big enough to make it a class VII, but I am not positive.

When I bought my 2188 site unseen it had 600 hours on it so I though what could go wrong. First I basically replaced the whole federhouse. Feeder Chain, gears, rebuilt front drum and bearings. In season we broke two sives so I replaced all the bushing in the cleaning system. Also a chopper bearing. Things to look for wear is the elphant ears. If they need to be replaced get the hard surfaced ones they last longer. Also make sure you cone is in good condition. No wear holes in it. Check the vanes make sure their are not any bent ones. I guess it was in corn check the augers for wear. I could go on a on but this is a rough idea. Good luck

Did it eat alot of dirt to wear that fastIJ 1600 sep hrs we did feederhouse floor, second chain first sprockets, clean grain boot, lower clean grain auger, first shaker bushings and shaker drive Now at 2200 sep hrs it needs elephant ears, cone bolts, and maybe cone. still on first sieves. We cut corn, wheat and milo, (more corn than anything) I leave the front drum in the top corn position and middle lower position all the time. That may help on feeder house wear. One thing i did when rebuilding shaker drive, i welded jump clutch ratchets to the hubs (not to each other) this takes out slack between the 4 lugs on the ratchets and hub. I also got .006 inch shim stock and put around hex shaft between shaft and hub and put locktite in it to remove all slack. That made the sieves run real smooth and quite (no banging and flopping)
