Combines 2388

I would sure get an 8 row head. My neighbor has a 1680 and a 6 row head and he can't hardly go fast enough. Make sure to check the high wear items like the cone and elevators. It should be a great machine for you.

There are 1688s, 2188s, 2388s, running here with 6 row heads, no problems, EXCEPT, can't run duals...and that may be a problem for you...Next head I buy with be and 8 row so I can run duals. The malarky about not being able to load the combine enough for good threshing is not true.

I don't think its malarky...... And well yeah you can run a 2 or 4 row head if you want... but i see putting a 6 row head on an 2388 like putting a 8 row on an 8010

Keeping a combine full makes it more efficient. All of your per acre costs are lower: labor, fuel, hours on the clock, trips through the field, shoe bushings, elevator chains......I could go on and on. The machine will do the job, but why waste the time and money running a larger machine than the header will supportIJ By the way, my 2388's rotor loss is lower when I run it full than when I don't.

I have a 12_23 planter and just didn't want to go to 16_31. Rolling ground makes it difficult to plant 12_ harvest 8. Perhaps I would be better off with a 2366IJ

Farmer12, Have you thought about a 2366 insteadIJ Would be a better match for the 6 row and should be able to handle a 25' bean platform no problem. Just a thought, Chuck

farmer12---Have you given any thought to getting a 12 row 30"IJ 4 mph w_12r=8 mph w_6r. I don't think that's going to happen. Using the row units from a 1000, 900 or even an 800 corn hd and a frame from Bish or Clarke won't cost you anymore than a new 6 row. Just a thought.
