interesting posts,,,funny deere came out with the rotor,,,I believe it was in the late 60's as a prototype,, but found there werent any advantages to them at that point in time,,,ie: the horsepower thing again. so they went back to what worked for a time, and now have improved on the rotor design by taking the slugging rotor and making a better threshing chamber and seperating system,,ie the sts seperating system and larger straw chamber at the back of the rotor,,,rotor all work fine but there are always needs for improvements. I never thought I would own one but I have an STS now and really like it, I have ran IH and gleaners and they need some inprovement in those designs too. Not that they dont work well.

I heard that Deere designed the current Axial-Flow and wasn't satisfied with it, so they dumped it! If anyone can research this and give an answer as to if this is true, please reply only if you know the facts!

I think he was saying that they didnt put the big motors in back then. if i remember right case didnt even offer a 12 row corn head until the 2388, lack of machine horsepower there!!!! Deere offered a 12 row on the 8820 as gleaner did on the N7 which is not a rotor like we are discussing here. If white's 9700 was so awesome y arent they all over the countryIJ I agree that deere set back and stood on a dang good walker design until they started seeeing that they would need more, thats when they released the sts which i am sure has been in the works for several years.

little different style of rotor, we had an N6 and it would out cut the R 62's and R 72's our neighbors's custom crew had, I was really disappointed in these machines. I can remember cutting 45+ b_u wheat going over 7 with min loss with the N6 but the 62's and 72's were going 4 to 4.5 in 35 b.u wheat and it wasnt the lack of hydro these guys were puttin into it b_c they are known fur pushin to the max.

Deere had you guys all fooled with the walker machines and they still have you eating out of their bowl. Its ok I understand Agco's kinda got me too. But Allis had a dominate machine in capacity and struggled with finance difficulties. Now they make money year after year and wounds are healing slowly. In my area NE KS, there is an abundance of Silver Seeders. Hauling load after load this fall I am still amazed how many are running strong with all the critics of them on this site. This fall two fellow farmers had engine lock up on their deeres but you wont see the cursing you seen when Gleaner had some engines that werent always making the grade. I havent heard of any gleaner engine failures in my area or on this site this fall, but I have heard of quite a few Deere engine failures.
