Thanks! I thought this information could be helpful to someone attempting to size a grain cart with a specific combine at certain harvesting conditions. Also, with a little algebra, one could use it determine how much combine hopper capacity is required (if someone is pursuing adding a topper). My professor always stated, Keep it simple stupid! back to the question at hand. 1000 bus. cart filled at 3 bus._sec. takes 5.6 minutes to fill(1000 _ 3=303.3 sec. _ 60 sec._min.),in 5.6 min. you travel 2464 ft.(5280ft._mile x 5 mile_hr. _ 60 min._hr. x 5.6 min.) x 45 ft. (18 rows x 30 in.)= 110880 sq.ft. _ 43560 sq.ft_ac.=2.54ac. combined x 200 bus._ac. =508 bus. combined while unloading on the go. therefore 1000 bus. less 508 bus. requires a grain tank capacity of 492 bus.

Almost forgot the massey directory, they are too busy fixing the combine to say anything. Not to critize but that is what I know about masseys they tend to break down.

Since no one else seems interested here, I'll give my opinion. Where we have mostly half mile rounds here the tank would need to hold 508 bushels to make it to the far end, at which point you could turn around and unload all the way back for just over 1000 bushels.

Why do I want to answer thisIJ Ok here goes. 18, 30in rows is a 45ft cornhead. Whoa. (45ft x 5280ft x 5mph)_43560sqft_ac =27.27ac_hr. 27.27ac_hr x 200 bu_ac =5454 bu_hr of corn cut. The unload time for 1000bu is .0926hr. .0926hr x 5454 bu_hr = 505.04bu cut during unloading. 1000bu - 505.04bu = 494.96bu or 500bu grain tank needed. casefan had it about right.
