I don't think you are being too hard but, you just don't understand the otherside of the parts counter. I have been on both side of the counter and I can tell you planning ahead is essential on both sides.. "wouldn't you already have one coming tommorrowIJ " Just because you sold the last one on the self dosn't constitute an emergency to get another one. There are several ways to order parts from AGCO. Three most common ways are Stock order, unit down and Promo.. Stock orders can take seven to ten days or so to make it back on the shelf but yield the most profit for dealership, A $25.00 part replenished on a stock order yields a 38.3% gross margin... same $25.00 part replenished by unit down order that takes a day or two to get back on the shelf yields a 18.1% gross margin. IJIJIJIJthink about that.. Promo orders yield the most profit for the dealership but can take weeks if not months to get and are often directshiped from the manufacturer. Promos are only offered at certian times of the year and planning ahead is essential to take advantage of promo order.. Cutting parts, sickles and section are promo orders .. i order my Kondex sickle stuff almost 6 months in advance.. So if something comes along "rush on section" you can be sol ..On the other hand if I order 6 month in advance and then a hail storm comes along or crops don't make due to lack of rain, I am sol because I have tied up $$$ for a year at least. And i don't have any "crop insurance" to cover it. I don't have figures for promo orders but I can assure it is more than 38% gross margin. It's a gamble all the the way around.. I gambled to order it on stock order and make more $$ and hope you didn't come in needing it till it was here.. Or I could gamble and order it unit down, and hope you do come get it asap... Ive been doing this for 11 years and it is tuff.. bottom line is dealership has to be profitable to keep doors open..
