Oh get over it libs and quit drinking the leftist coolaid every day. If your boy BIll did anything about all the TERRORISM in the 1990's then we wouldn't need to fight now and the war would have been WON a long time ago. GET OVER IT AND GET A lIFE.

What did he say about the wheat. Is it still hanging onIJ I've been scared to call my man at Frederick. He is a 100% notil. This may be the year that his wheat is better than all his neighbors. Here at my place in Ks we have had 3 or 4 showers, less than a 1_4 inch and one 4 to 5 inch snow and thats about it since the middle of August. Most of the wheat here went into the ground in real good moisture so it doesn't look to bad yet, but we sure need a good rain.

He said that he thought some of the tillers were starting to brown off on the plants so the yield potential was going to be down. But he was still optimistic he told me I have never lost a crop in Dec. yet. Your guy with no till will really help out this year because his crop will have more reserve moisture. Also talked to my guy west of Great Bend and he said things looked good on their farm they were starting to put fetilizer on this week they no till also.

amen caseman...farm program payments are just capitalized into land values...saw a map in our Ag Policy class that had an estimate of what land values would do by state if there was not subsidies...something like a 37% decline in Kansas...for an ag state that was about average, some higher and some lower...don't remember any other states for sure but i could prolly get a copy of the map is anyone is interested... b-rad beh9999@ksu.edu

Bundy is right overall. The lDP is the most price depressing program the US government ever had. The efecy of countercyclical payments is small in comparison. lets not forget why lDP's were created. It started back in the debates on the 1996 farm bill. There had been provisions in earlier farm laws for loanson stored grains. The farmer needing money could borrow direct from the government against the amount of grain he had currently in storage. If the market price dropped, instead of bankrupting the farmer, the gov would let him pay back the loan at the later lower price. Basically help just enough to kep him in business. FF to 1995. Farm Buereu was among several groups who lobbied congress that the loan program was not fair to all (READ the diffinition of "FAIR" as in George Orwell's "Animal Farm"). So to make it fair the loan Deficiency Program was appended to the farm bill. So now we can make a loan, pay it back at the lower market grain price , and make the government pay us the difference, all in the same visit to the FSA office. Although it was not intended to be so publicly, the lDP is in effect a government price guarentee. Any thing of this sort causes a huge price depression in the market place. lets review crop prices. For 5-8 years before the 1996FB we had corn runing at or above $3_bu. Wheat was beter than $6, and soybeans ran from $7.50-10.50 solid. After the passage of the 1996 farm bil those prices continued for about 6 months. Then we had the asian market collapse. All crop prices dropped below lDP rates. Within 6-9 more months the asian currencies had regained nearly all of thier value compared to the dollar. They were again able to buy the same levels of crops they had before. BUT something had changed. Suddenly the carryover levels were considered by grain buyers as too high when before they had been considered low. The US government has been paying us farmers lDP's throughout almost every year since 1997.

It is the big new shiny equipment that makes subsidies necessary and in the long term is killing the farming industry.

I don't believe that subsidies will be much longer! The US government has a very big debt and other countries will soon demand repayment in something worthwhile like Euros. This is all supposed to start in March along with a big oil crunch. It will be hard times for many but the only concellation is the the corporations will be hit harder than the working man
