It was a great game for sure! I'll be honest and say that I was cheering for the Bruins (UCLA). They were expected to be out in the first game. What a ride for both teams!
I love this!!! I didn't know that goats were so smart! I don't have animals but if I did, a goat would be tops on my list. I'd teach it to pick grapes!!! Ha ha, wonder how many it would eat.
That is awesome news for sure. We were able to obtain a local grant last year. That is how we purchased a few more dying fields. We hope to one day buy out a dying vineyard.
I read that most birds need up to 12 hours of sleep each day. They just tuck their heads into their feathers and sleep.
I often wonder how they don't fall off or over when they are sleeping.
Oh yeah, it was great knocking it off my mental checklist. I felt so much stress relief after we finished. This year we won't leave any vines unattended before winter. It was more work getting them ready now over what it normally is at the end of the season.
Try using a slinky on the poles. It's hard for the squirrels to get up and over them. We had the same problem at our house. I don't like feeding the squirrels but I do like feeding the birds.
Also, do you have any big woodpeckers? They have been known to peck the heck out of suet.
We had a great weather week and weekend last week (bit cold again this week). We were able to get out to the vines that weren't pruned properly last fall. We got most of them done and they are looking good! I'm so thankful, it was stressing me out.
My brother is a cattle farmer and they mostly sell the animals. They don't butcher their own animals. They also don't really want to deal with the public so they don't sell by the pound. I don't think many do around here.
I'm not a cattle farmer but I have a question. We drove by this neighboring farm three days in a row. The cows are kept in a barn (it's not totally enclosed) with the bottom of the walls open. I get that it is protection from the elements (gets cold here). A few of the cows were going "crazy"...
Good luck! We have had horrible luck with snow blowers. We just use our plows now. I know there are areas it is tough to use a plow. Let us know if you find something you love.
It's simple to make for sure. We are also doing ham and cabbage this year. Not everyone likes corned beef. It's an acquired taste for sure. I'm really not even fond of it.
Texas is a mess but getting better. Hopefully they figure out that mess before it happens again (if it does).
I guess the Governor is on the hot seat in NY. Something about sending the wrong information about nursing home deaths to the Federal Government when they were asked. They are saying it...
@Birdie That is exactly what I'm talking about. We only have so many hours in a day. I can't imagine finding the time to do both 100%. She is actually leaning towards my opinion now.
We have some family members that are 14 that help us with the grapes. I think 15 is the legal age (with working papers) but most wait until they are 16.
I see nothing wrong with having some 16 year old kids working for you.
Are you Irish? Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? If you do what is your meal? We always have corned beef and cabbage with carrots and rolls. It's the one day of the year that we do eat this.
My wife is crazy! Not only we buy a couple of new fields with a lot of work to be done, she wants to plant more vegetables. She thinks we have time to run a farmers market. It's true, we can hire some help but I think we should wait one year. I think we should get our new field of grapes going...
We have been binge watching this show. At first I wasn't sure if I liked John. It's a tough show for sure. I wonder if any of this is true. There are sure some crazy dynamics of the family.
I would certainly take Almost Eden's advice. President Biden is all about being green. I would certainly wait a bit to see if there are any grant monies available soon under this new administration.
I went and looked at a field and realized that our vines weren't pruned enough. We are going to have our hands full come spring. If we don't prune them more, the leaves will be too shady and our grapes won't ripen enough!
