    Thinking of growing houseplants

Yes, make sure that's legal. If that plant has a patent, they'll hit you up with a cease and desist order before you can blink. You could probably get away with a small charity sale, but you won't go unnoticed if you're selling them as a business. Definitely check for a patent and a trademark.

    Happy Holidays One and All!

Just wanted to wish everyone here a Happy Holiday! I know it probably looks different for many people this year, but try to enjoy what you can, when you can. Well, at least that's my plan.

    Would you quit farming?

I'm all for trying something new and tweaking my approach until I get it right. I wouldn't go too deeply into debt though. At some point, it's time to call it quits.

Forced blooms for pots and bouquets

Yeah, lots of pros say they won't bloom again, but that wasn't my experience. It might take a year of rest before they're super showy again though. I guess bulbs are my favorite to force, especially tulips.

    Worst thing about pandemic

The constant fear is mine. Fear that my elderly parents will catch it, fear that my children will catch it, fear that my friends will catch it - just never ending fear. It's suffocating at times.

    Curbing insomnia

I've been awake for the past few days, and it's starting to affect my mind. Do you have any tips or tricks for dozing off when it seems impossible to do so?

    Goat ear mites

Doh! Why didn't I think of that. I've never felt so much like Home Simpson in my life, but that's totally who I'm channeling with that one.

    Uptick in charitable requests

Most hospitals are private companies raking in the profits. They usually pay for regular interiorscaping, so no way would I give them something free in that instance. It could hurt the business that has a contract with them. Churches take up tithes. I wouldn't donate to one of them either...

    Goat ear mites

One of my goats keeps shaking his head and rubbing it along the fence. I've checked him over and both his ears smell bad. They're pretty dirty inside. I need to do a better job of keeping all their ears clean to begin with, but with this one I'm fairly sure it's ear mites. Is there a way to...

    AG Christmas Displays

These Christmas displays cracked me up this morning, so I had to share. I love that they went all out and celebrated agriculture with their Christmas lights. https://www.farms.com/ag-industry-news/seven-ag-related-christmas-light-displays/

    Chamber of Commerce

@Shelbii, it can get expensive because there are usually regular dues to pay. Sometimes they charge for events as well. @Urban Homestead, whether it's worth it will really depend on your specific CoC. I've been a member for years because they do a lot to support local businesses and it's a...

    Neighbor kid allergic to strawberries

I'm not sure what I would do in this case. If the child had an EpiPen, then I just might comply because the allergy is serious enough to lead to death. Although I think the parents and child bear the responsibility for keeping away, I couldn't live with myself if a child died because he ate one...

    Raising sheep?

Some people have sheep for petting zoos, or they rent them out at Christmas for manger scenes, or they breed them for shows. I think sheep are super cute, but I wouldn't want to raise them. They're awfully stubborn.

How to keep ducks' water clean?

I'm watching some ducks while my friends are out of town. They usually have access to a nice pond, but they are staying in their run while my friends are away. The ducks keep swimming in the heated water troughs and buckets and are getting them absolutely filthy. I'm changing the water twice a...

Solar vs. gas vs. battery-powered generators

I've never tried the battery-operated options. The only one I know of is Goal Zero's Yeti and it's too expensive for what it does in my opinion. I use solar to operate some of my greenhouses. I don't believe a solar-powered generator is enough to operate a fridge, heat/air, and other power...

    Battle of the Poinsettias

Any poinsettia sellers out there? Do you think Premium Red will remain the top seller this year or will it be toppled by something more exotic? My customers are snapping up Ice Punch as quickly as I can put them out. Polar Bear remains unpopular among my shoppers this year.

    New on the site~~Hello

Hi, welcome to the forum @SHS Drew! I will happily throw more money down on locally produced food. I hope it works out for you! Have you already come up with a signature spice blend?

    How many lights you need

Did you know there's an actual formula to how many Christmas lights you need? Apparently it's one strand per foot. I had no idea. I guess it's easier than the look and see method that I usually rely on.

    Exercise plan help

I really don't. I do a lot of plant breeding and such and so much of it is computer work. I also run the books, marketing, and other office stuff. My husband does a lot of the work with our livestock. I need to pitch in more with that. @Desi, I need to give it a try. It's always seemed...

    Cover crop yea or nay?

I don't usually till my soil at all, but I'm going to do it this spring. Do you think I should till it now and plant a cover crop to benefit the soil or would it be better to just wait until spring and till it then. Basically, are cover crops truly useful or are they overrated when it comes to...
