Getting Cat to Eating Fewer Carbs?

They do make low-carb kibble. There are prescription and non-prescription low-carb formulas on the market. Maybe you can ask your vet which one he would recommend? I hope you can get your guy to eat a lower carb diet and that he does well on it.

    Baking Soda to Kill Weeds

I love baking soda. You can use it for so many things in the house - everything from deodorizing to cleaning. I use it regularly on our front steps, porch, and sidewalk to help with the ice we get in the winter. The other day I was reading and saw that baking soda can even help remove weeds...

Best apps for looking up calories?

I like Lose It! It lets you look up calories for foods and has a barcode scanner for packaged foods. It has a food diary where you can keep track of what you're eating and an exercise log. You can also link some fitness trackers to it.

    Are You Innovative?

To be honest, I am not too creative. I wish I could think outside the box more often. When I get stuck, I tend to search the Internet for ideas or ask others who can think outside the box.

Standing out at the farmers market

I think that's a great idea. Everyone loves free stuff. If you put some flower arrangements out for display, I'm sure you'll catch attention for your class. I would personally love to learn how to arrange flowers. It really is an art form.

    Ground Versus Raised Chicken Coops?

I'm planning to build my chickens a larger chicken coop because I'm adding to our flock. I want to make sure there's plenty of room for everyone to be content. My current chicken coop sits on the ground, but I'm seeing lots of plans for raised chicken coops. Do you think one type is better than...

    How to clean up rust

This may sound a little crazy, but it does work. You can get rust off metal tools with a potato and dish soap. Cut a potato in half, and put dish soap on the open side. Scrub the tools with the soapy side of the potato, and watch the rust come off.

    Profitable Flowers

Lilies and daisies are very popular around here right now. Maybe it's because these flowers are so Spring and Summer-like. I think we all need a little pick-me-up during the winter months, and these flowers are very cheerful.

    What can't you grow?

I've tried to grow celery several times with no success. I've given up trying for now. I know celery needs a lot of moisture, and I try to remember to water it consistently, but I'm not always great about it. Even when I do make a real effort to water it consistently, it just doesn't seem to...

    Adding to Our Chicken Flock

We currently have a couple of Leghorn chickens, and we're looking to add to our flock. I'm interested in getting a Golden Comet or two because they lay so many eggs per year. Can I house all the chickens together, or do I need a coop for each breed?

How Long Until You Can Drive On Concrete

Concrete reaches 90% of its full strength seven days after you pour it, so you can begin to drive personal vehicles, like cars and pickup trucks on it then. You should wait a full 30 days before driving heavier equipment on it.

    Worried About Older Barn Cat

You're doing the right thing by taking him to the vet. I always say it's best to err on the side of caution. I hope nothing is wrong with your kitty. Please keep us posted.

    Inspiration to Produce More?

My inspiration comes from my family. I want to provide the best life and opportunities I possibly can for my children. Reading stories about other farmers and their accomplishments definitely inspire me as well.

What Breed of Goat is Best?

We're thinking about getting a couple of goats to add to our farm this Spring. I'd like a goat who is smaller in size. Since we have kids, I'd also really like to find a breed of goat who is friendly and gentle with people. I searched around a little and saw that there are several types of...

Which animals are best suited for a small farm?

Bees are also good for small farms. I started keeping a hive a couple of years ago. The fresh honey is awesome! And beekeeping is actually more enjoyable than I thought it would be.

Coffee Exports Decrease with Drought in Central America

I agree with Jonny B Goode - thankfully coffee is grown in many countries, so if something goes wrong in one, we aren't out of luck. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my morning cup. It's the perfect way to get my day started.

    Gingerbread Barn

It can definitely be a challenge to keep the house (or barn) together! It was a fun project! It is really cute. I'm actually thinking of having us do a second one to give to my parents (the kids' grandparents) as a homemade Christmas gift from the kids. I think they would really enjoy that.

    Moving Bee Hives for Winter

Bees aren't really livestock, so I thought this thread might fit here. Do you all move your bee hive/s for the winter? I started keeping bees a couple of years ago. It's definitely been a learning experience. The first year, I lost quite a few bees during winter. I learned that I needed to move...

    Baking Class at the Farm

I love to bake and know I could definitely improve with some knowledge, so I'd go to something like this. I agree with the others who said this could be a cool business for her. Please let us know how it goes.

    Dream Crop?

I'd love it if we could grow coffee beans! As you probably know, the climate in the US just isn't compatible with growing them. I don't know how I'd live without my coffee; it's a daily essential for me.
