Maybe it's cause JD has remained the only company that has stayed independent. Think about that, it's no longer just Case or New Holland anymore. Now it's Case, New Holland,IH and Steiger, Flexi-coil, Concord and so on, all owned by Fiat, and Gleaner, MF, Challenger (Cat),White, Hesston, New Idea, Willmar and so on, all owned by Agco. That dosen't make them bad or anything but there are farm families in the U.S. that have run JD equiptment for over 150 years and they aren't about to change.

Mondo Are you sure about the construction equipment comments. Another article I saw had it Cat, Komatsu, CNH, Deere, and can't remeber the fifth. Komatsu is a huge player globally, and is picking up market share in the U.S. No bigger than Deere is in ag in most of the rest of the world I have a hard time beleiving they hold that large a share of the Construction market. Especially when CNH has excellent markes share in most of Europe. Chads

That's what I remember on the news when Case and New Holland were bought out. They had a small segment about JD on the tube, but that was a couple of years ago. They are very big players in the forestry industry. CNHs construction end of it is mainly road constuction type equiptment.

You might want to scratch off some of that green paint.Alot of Deere equipment is bought then painted green and the price jacked.It's easy to keep from being bought out when you are mainly a retail company.looks like John Deere doesn't change dresses their just a cross dresser.

For years, Case was the n1 loader backhoe supplier in the world. They are used everywhere. Case is also huge in trencher sales. Also skidsteers, and small dozers, and jobsite forklifts, well, you get my drift. Deere may well be n2 in Forestry, but I seriously doubt it's n2 WW. Way too many other big players on the global side. Chads

Mondo, maybe we should call Deere by its full name. How does Deere, Waterloo Boy, van Brunt, lindemann, lanz soundIJ Could also throw in Wagner, Kilbury, and Macdon too. They are all companies that JD bought out or worked with to make stuff. These names were all part of the John Deere family for a time until memory faded and the machine in question just became a Deere. In time, the other stuff will become just Agco, or just Case. Also, for the record, Deere tried to buy Versatile(government wouldn't allow it to pass) and Flexicoil(but couldn't close the deal). Deere is no different than Fiat or Agco, just earlier. Notice how Deere has been wraping up all these small companies that make stuff for them. Eg. Sunnybrook, Redecop, and so on. Hope they don't meet the same fate as Mark Underwood and his Bi-rotor. Also curious who makes all this stuff that John deere badges, like drills, skil-saws, impacts, chainsaws and weed-eatersIJ

took some digging, but found in one of my farm books that Deere bought the combine componet of Caterpiller in 1936. When you get right down to it, all Deere can claim is a plow!

Aside from Cat_Challenger, I believe AGCO to be the biggest "retailer" in the farm equipment business. The only 2 "totally new" products AGCO ever offered both failed; - the C62_8680 conventional combine and the AGCOSTAR tractor line. Every other "new" product AGCO has offered is either a refinement of an existing technology, or someone else's product, rebadged! Not to pick an arguement (I like my R62),but AGCO has really disappointed me.
