I agree, lexions are just in a different place altogether. But still, to run 18 30" rows comes to a hell of a lot of corn in a short time! I see that your rows were 20", so if I worked correctly, that comes to about 3600bu_hourIJ The 30" hypothetical header apparently makes the combine do something like 5400bu_h. That's 1800bu difference in an hour running at 5 miles. At 7mph, however, your demo 475 comes real close.....scary.

500 bushel start unloading exactly when tank has 500 bushcl and when the tank is empty you will have 1000 bushel in the cart. assumptions 90 bushel per minute harvest rate.. 5 mph ....30 seconds to unlosd 90 bushels.

Your assumption would be correct on row spacing. We need to be using 100% efficency , because if the combine was uloading on the go it would be 100% ,unless you would uload around the corners. Carry on.

30" rows 20" rows 40" rows, don't matter does itIJ Plant population is what counts. 34,000.

CIH made a combine to solve your problem, It was labeled CX100. Instead of rear axle it had an articulated pivot that attached to a grain cart (behind combine) grain tank was replaced with 450hp (guessing) engine. Auger went from top of clean elevator back to top of grain cart. Floater tires under front,Tracks under rear (cart)

Ok Al, gonna try this again............lol At 5 mph at 100% eff. you would harvest 27.27 acres per hour. Which calculates to: 5,454 bu_hour 90.9 bu_min 3 bu_sec unload = 180 bu_min At the start, if you had 665 bu in your tank, it would take you 3.69 min to unload on the go. Thats 665 bu in the cart. If you are harvesting, in 3.69 min you will refill 335.42 bu into the combine, then to unload that on the go as it fills, you get right at 1000.42 bu in the cart. Anywhere near what you came up with AlIJIJ 665 bu.

Row spacing and populationIJ 2 different variables on the same subject. 34,000 is the same on 20" or 30" The difference is the amount of space between the plants. So 45' of 30" rows in 34,000 pop will bring in aprox. 1.5 times as much grain as 30' of 20" rows in 34,000 and both 18 rows worth of corn, assuming the 2 diferent spacing are making the same per acre.

You guys are confusing me..... Firstly, this ignorant Australian cereal farmer knows nothing about row crops, and less about corn, but isnt the important bit 200 BPA..IJ 45 feet on 30 inch rows will bring in 1.5 times as much as 30 feet on 30 inch rows or 20 inch rows, as long as its all 200 BPA Seems to me once its 200 BPA then row width is irrelevant, apart from the agronomics in achieving 200 BPA in the first place, and machinery matching. Either way its a lot of grain..

Wait!! I see it now.. The problem comes from you referring to width as however many rows, and i think of width as so many feet, and dont think of rows at all.. so 18 x 20 inch rows would be 30 feet, where 18 by 30 inch rows would be 45.. Simple when you know.... : ) I'm slow, but I think i got there eventually. sorry guys.. I learn a lot about other countries and people, and other crops and farming at sites like this..
