    Uptick in cases

I live in a rural area in the Midwest and we haven't seen much action with COVID-19. I'm very thankful for that. I know it's been rough on other folks though, and my heart goes out to them.

    Dangerous, but lucrative?

Not if it means carrying around a shock stick and a stun gun in order to protect myself. How depressing for both man and beast.

    Old tractors

They might be there to designate a boundary point. I know my neighbor uses one for that purpose. Well, I think it was his great-grandfather actually, and it's never been moved. I doubt any of those old tractors can be fixed.

    COVID deaths and global warming

It's impossible to know exactly how many people have passed away from COVID-19 worldwide, but it's estimated to be around at least 3.69 million just by totaling the countries that report their stats. Has this sudden depopulation had a positive impact on global warming? Although I believe the...

    Tomatoes in!

I took the thread title to mean that you were already harvesting tomatoes. I figured you were a greenhouse grower or something and was about to be jealous. I'm craving garden fresh tomatoes, and we still have a ways to go before they'll be ready. I hope we all have a productive harvest this...

    Cows getting out

I'm not sure whether it's fairly common or not, but it's happened to me a time or two. They're tagged, and they didn't exactly get very far, so it wasn't a big production to retrieve them.

    Potato Bugs

I'm not totally against pesticides, but I swear those darn bugs have evolved somehow and built up a resistance to them. They're kinda like those June bugs. You just got to pick them off.

    What to plant as filler?

You could plant some spinach. It matures within 30 days. The tomatoes and peppers might offer it some protection from the summer heat too. Spinach tends to bolt if it gets too hot.

    Battery Powered Hedge Trimmers

Hey, I'm glad you found one you liked. You might want to hang on to that receipt in case it goes on sale for Father's Day. Home Depot offers price protection for 30 days after purchase.

    Hostas under attack

Check for the slimy trails of slugs, because that's what it sounds like to me. No matter what's doing it, you could always dust a little dichotomous earth around to deter pests. That stuff might get to pollinators too, so just avoid anything with blooms.

    Battery Powered Hedge Trimmers

I've had mixed results when buying their products, but I'd say that's true of every brand nowadays. How heavy is the one you're looking at? I ask because we have a 13-pound Makita that gets too heavy for my wife after a few minutes. We're an older couple though. The Makita is nothing special...

    Benefits of edger?

It's more precise and easier to control, so you get perfect cuts with it. It's nearly impossible to get the same look with a weed whacker. I'd ask your brother-in-law why he thinks you need one so badly. Maybe he has some ideas for your flower beds.

    Any new loans?

My son and daughter can't get a mortgage right now, despite having a healthy down payment ready. I guess it just depends on the market. I'm sorry that your friend is having trouble securing a loan, @Gordyg. Maybe that will change once our economy has recovered a bit.

    Mask situation is a mess!

I guess that applies to me. I sell to distributors. No, the mask issue isn't a problem. It's not like there's anyone to argue with though, since I don't deal directly with the public. I've enjoyed being on this end of things instead of dealing directly with a bunch of customers.

    Dealing with wind

Or is this the new normal due to climate change? Lots of abnormal changes are occurring so do we need to adapt our agricultural methods and landscape to prepare for these fires, floods, and heavy winds or is it all just a coincidence that won't come around again for several years? Of course...

    Best weed whacker

I think weed whackers are pretty equal across the board. Look for one that isn't too heavy for you and you'll be fine. They'll probably go on sale around Father's Day.

    Dealing with wind

It's been horribly windy and that's not something I'm used to having. It's already toppled my corn and green beans. I know how to solve the problem when there's too much rain or not enough rain, but wind is new to me. I guess I need some sort of a windbreak like I use with my livestock during...

    Invasive Plants

I'm not sure what it is, but I have some sort of invasive ivy growing around my wood fences. I hack it back several times a year, every year, but it just keeps coming back. If only my tomatoes were that determined to flourish.

    Problems With Deer

You could always shoot near them. The sound will run them off. Most people either put up a fence, which can be costly and time-consuming, or they stick with plants that are deer resistant, or they add some sacrificial plants in the hopes that the deer will stay away from the other plants.

    Mother's Day plans?

Our mothers have long passed away. We miss them, plus there's a lot of regret there, so I understand what you mean about feeling melancholy today. Our kids are grown and have children of their own, but they still send my wife flowers and cards, which helps brighten things up. I hope you're...
